Barnums Defeat Manchester In Inaugural Game

Joey Sangiuolo and Blake Benway following an opening day win.

The Bridgeport Barnums defeated the Manchester Eagles 6-1 on Thursday evening at Seaside Park in Bridgeport. It was the inaugural game for the Barnums, who are a new team to the Connecticut College Baseball League in 2023.

Joey Sangiuolo got the start for the Barnums. After giving up a run in the second inning, Sangiuolo was lights out the rest of the way. He threw a complete game scattering five hits while striking out 10 and walking nobody.

Offensively, Blake Benway got it started for Bridgeport in the third inning. With the bases-loaded and two outs, Benway lined a ball down the right field line, bringing home two runs.

The Barnum got an insurance run in the fourth. With runners on the corners and two out, Joey D'Elia beat out an infield single to first base to allow Brayden Mazzoni to come home and score.

Bridgeport expanded their lead in the fifth when Justin Higgins singled to left field to bring home two and extend the lead to 5-1.

The scoring was capped later in the inning when Matt Vivona raced home on a wild pitch.

The Barnums will be back in action on Friday at home at 5:45pm vs Southington.
