Comeback Comes Up Short As Barnums Drop Tight Game To West Haven

The West Haven Sailors defeated the Bridgeport Barnums 4-3 on Thursday afternoon in West Haven. Despite the game being in West Haven, Bridgeport was the home team.

The Sailors got on the board in the top of the first with two runs.

West Haven added two more in the top of the fourth to take a 4-0 lead.

Bridgeport answered back in the bottom of the fourth.

Andrew Fortunato, who has the lone Barnum with multiple hits on the day, led off with a single to right. The next batter, Charlie Mulhall, doubled to center field to score Fortunato.

Will Stellato followed up with a double of his own to score Mulhall to cut the deficit in half, 4-2. Three batters later, with runners at the corners, Christian Homa stole second and Stellato scored from third on an error to cut the deficit to one. Homa advanced to third on the error but the Barnums couldn't plate another run.

That would be all the scoring for the game as Joey Sanguiolo kept the West Haven bats in check the rest of the way and the Barnums could only plate one hit for the balance of the game.

The Barnums are back in action on Saturday with a scrimmage vs Waterbury at home at noon. Their next regular season game is July 7 at Simsbury at 6:30pm.
