Barnums Use Aggressive Baserunning, Strong Pitching to Top Hamden
The Bridgeport Barnums defeated the Hamden Miners 6-0 on Monday night at Seaside Park in Bridgeport.
It was the final regular season home game for the Barnums, who finish on the road, before a possible home playoff game next week.
The Barnums got on the board in the bottom of the first. With Will Stellato on second, after singling to lead off the game, and two outs, Stellato stole third and the throw from the Hamden catcher went into left field to allow Stellato to score.
Bridgeport tacked on in the fourth. Brayden Mazzoni attempted to steal third, and, much like in the first inning, the throw went into left field to allow Mazzoni to score.
Later in the inning, with Joey D'Elia at second, Blake Benway beat out a slow roller between the pitchers mound and first base. Hamden tried to get DE'lia at third, but the throw back across the diamond sailed high and D'Elia was able to come in and score.
Bridgeport tacked on in the fifth on a Matt Tabet sacrifice fly and a Stellato RBI single, to go up 5-0.
The Barnums final run came in the sixth on a Dima Cornell-Neal RBI groundout.
On the mound for Bridgeport, Joey Sangiuolo battled and kept Hamden off the board. Sangiuolo worked into and out of trouble all night, scattering six hits and four walks over seven innings, while striking out four.
The Barnums are back in action on Tuesday at West Haven at 5:45pm.
