Barnums Take Two From Manchester

The Bridgeport Barnums swept a doubleheader from the Manchester Eagles on Saturday at Seaside Park in Bridgeport. 

The Barnums came from behind to take game one, 7-1. In game two, they got their offense going early and never looked back, winning 6-2. 

Game one started slow, as Bridgeport was held to just two hits through the first four innings and trailed 1-0. 

In the fifth, they put up five runs on just two hits. Bridgeport was helped out by four walks and an error. The big hits in the inning were a two-run single by John Heizman and a two-run triple by Christian Homa. Joey D'Elia also had a sacrifice fly in the inning. 

Joey Sanguiolo was sold on the mound for the Barnums. He threw a complete game, allowed just a first inning run and scattering seven hits. He struck out seven and did not allow a walk. 

Will Stellato also had two hits and two RBI. 

In game two, the Barnums, playing as the vising team, scored three runs in the top of the first. With the bases loaded and nobody out, Will Singlewald singled to left to bring in two runs. 

The next batter, Blake Benway, singled to center to bring home another. 

Bridgeport added another in the third when Kieran Shea led off the inning with a deep drive to left field for a solo home run. Shea's home run was the first in Barnums history. 


After Manchester got two runs in the bottom of the second, Bridgeport got those right back in the top of the third. 

With the bases loaded and nobody out, Benway ripped a single to right to bring home two runs and cap the scoring. 

Benway had two hits and three RBI. Heitzman had two hits of his own and two runs scored. Homa also had two runs scored. 

Matt Longo picked up the win in relief with a scoreless inning and Matt Cummings threw three scoreless innings in relief. 

Bridgeport is back in action on Tuesday as they host Simsbury.
