Scruggs' Walk-Off Helps Barnums Stave Off Elimination

Kieran Scruggs' pinch-hit single on an 0-2 pitch in the bottom of the seventh to score Mike Porzio Jr. lifted the Bridgeport Barnums to a 3-2 win over the Meriden Riptide in a Connecticut College Baseball League elimination game on Tuesday evening at Seaside Park in Bridgeport.
Porzio reached on an error to lead off the inning. Brian Vasquez then singled to right. Two batters later, Scruggs came off the bench and delivered the decisive hit.
The Barnums got terrific pitching from Jimmy Muthersbaugh who throw a complete game. He allowed two runs on six hits, while striking out four and walking none.
The game was scoreless for the first three and a half innings before the Barnums got on the board in the bottom of the fourth.
Meyer Stransky walked to lead off the inning. Two batters later, Will Stellato doubled down the left field ling to bring in Stransky. Three batters later, Jose Vasquez singled to right field to bring in Stellato and put Bridgeport up 2-0.
Meriden would tie the game in the sixth on a two-out two-run triple by Ben Kuja.
The Barnums advance to Wednesday's Round 3E+ game where they will face Danbury at 5:30pm at Seaside Park
