Barnums are the Champions!

The Bridgeport Barnums are 2024 Connecticut College Baseball League Champions!  The Barnums defeated the Southington Black Knights 5-2 in the Championship game on Tuesday night at Memorial Field in Simsbury.  After finishing 12-9-1 in the regular season, Bridgeport earned the number three seed in the playoffs.  The Barnums opened up the playoffs with a 2-0 win over Waterbury on July 24. The next day, they followed up with a 5-2 win over West Haven. That moved them into the Winners Bracket Final.  On July 27, they defeated Wallingford to advance to the championship,  After the championship was postponed on Monday, the Barnums jumped out to a 5-0 lead before holding on four a 5-2 victory.  Winning a championship, and running the table in the playoffs, is an impressive feat. Gibson's No-Hitter Leads Barnums Into CCBL Championship Game

The 2024 Bridgeport Barnums  Cole Gibson pitched a no-hitter to lead the Bridgeport Barnums to a 5-0 win over the Waterbury Silverbacks in the Connecticut College Baseball League Winners Bracket Final on Saturday morning at Seaside Park in Bridgeport.  Gibson allowed a leadoff walk in the top of the first inning and nothing more, while striking out 10.  The only other baserunner reached on an error in the sixth inning, but Gibson was able to work out of it.  Offensively, the Barnums on the board in the second inning.   Blake Benway led off the inning with a single. Two batters later, Kieran Shea singled to put two on.  After a walk loaded the bases, Sebastian Sampieri hit a sacrifice fly to right field to score Benway and put Bridgeport up 1-0.  The Barnums broke the game open in the fourth, scoring three times, all with two outs.  With runners on first and second, Yeudy Ramirez singled to right to bring in Christian Nilsen. Barnums Open Up Playoffs with Victory over Waterbury

Behind Joey Sanguiolo's complete-game four-hitter, the Bridgeport Barnums defeated the Waterbury Silverbacks 2-0 on Wednesday night evening at Seaside Park in Bridgeport.  The Barnums got on the board in the bottom of the first.  Christian Homa and John Heitzman each singled to put runners on the corners with one out. Will Stellato then came up and dunked a single to right to bring in Homa. One of two hits on the game for Stellato.  With Heitzman at third and Stellato at first, a pickoff attempt at first base was arrent, allowing Heiztman to come in and score and Stellato to move to second.  That was all the Barnums would get, but it was enough.  Sanguiolo did the rest on the mound.  The Bridgeport side-armer struck out seven and did not walk a single batter in the complete-game effort.  The Barnums will play in the second round on Thursday vs West Haven at 5:45pm at West Haven High School. 

Waterbury Tops Bridgeport Behind Big First Inning

Waterbury scored four runs in the top of the first and two more in the second en route to a 7-1 victory over the Bridgeport Barnums on Thursday evening at Seaside Park in Bridgeport.  Bridgeport got their run in the fourth. Will Stellato walked to lead off the inning.  Blake Benway reached on an error moving Stellato to third. The next batter Ian Nilsen grounded out to shortstop to bring home Stellato and get the Barnums on the board. That is all they would get.  The Barnums will be back in action on Friday vs Wallingford at Cheshire at 5:30. Bridgeport will return home for the regular season finale on Wednesday at 5:45 vs Hamden. 

Barnums Fall to Glastonbury In Mid-Week Affair

The Bridgeport Barnums fell to the Glastonbury Arrows 5-3 on Wednesday evening at Seaside Park in Bridgeport.  Glastonbury went up 3-0 mid fourth before Bridgeport got on the board.  With two outs in the fourth, Ian Nilsen and Blake Benway both walked. A wild pitched moved runners to second and third before a pickoff attempt of Benway at second went into center field allowing Nilsen to come in and score.  Glastonbury would add two more in the fifth to stretch their lead to 5-1.  Bridgeport cut into the deficit with two runs in the sixth. With the bases loaded and two outs, Joey D’Elia singled to left to plate Will Stellato. The next batter, Will Singewald was hit by a pitch to force in a run. That would be all the Barnums would get as they would leave the bases loaded.  Bridgeport is right back in action on Thursday at 5:45pm at home vs Waterbury.
