Barnums Drop Doubleheader to Western Mass

The Bridgeport Barnums came up on the short side of both games of Saturday's doubleheader against the Western Mass Pioneers.  In game one, Bridgeport fell in extra innings 6-5 after losing a late lead. In game two, Western Mass won a pitcher's duel 2-0.  The Barnums got on the board in the first inning in game one.  Yeudy Ramirez walked to lead off the inning. He stole second and the throw went into center field, allowing him to try for third. Then, the throw from center field to third got past the third baseman allowing Ramirez to come in and score.  In the second inning, Bridgeport added another.  Will Singewald was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning. Two batters later, with Singewald at second and one out, Joey D'Elia doubled to left to bring home Singewald.  Western Mass got on the board in the fourth.  In the bottom of the fifth, The Barnums got the run back.  Kieran Shea was hit by a pitch. Tabet Pitches Barnums Past Hamden in Low-Scoring Affair

Matt Tabet gets ready to deliver a pitch Matt Tabet's complete game four-hitter led the Bridgeport Barnums past the Hamden Miners 2-0 on Tuesday evening at Seaside Park in Bridgeport.  Tabet struck out seven and walked just one.  The game was scoreless through the first five innings as neither team could get anything going offensively.  In the top of the sixth, the Barnums, playing as the road team, despite being at home, got on the board.  With two outs and nobody on, Yeudy Ramirez doubled off the wall in left field and Sebastian Sampieri reached on an error to put runners on the corners.  A strikeout and a wild pitch brought home Ramierez with the game's first run.  Bridgeport tacked on an insurance run in the top of the seventh. Will Stellato doubled down the left field line and two batters later, John Heitzman hit a sacrifice fly to right field to plate Stellato.  The Barnums will be back in action on Wednesday at West Haven at 5:45pm. Barnums' Edged By Wallingford in Low-Scoring Game

The Bridgeport Barnums' fell to the Wallingford Silver Storm 2-1 on Saturday afternoon at Seaside Park in Bridgeport.  Wallingford put up a run in the first on an error, stolen base and single.  The game remained 1-0 until the sixth when the Silverstorm tacked on another.  The Barnums' loaded the bases with nobody out in the sixth and a sacrifice fly by Kieran Shea brought home one run to get Bridgeport on the board.  The Barnums' could get no more in the sixth or seventh, despite chances.  Joey Sanguiolo threw a complete game for Bridgeport, allowing just the two runs (one earned) on four hits while walking two and striking out six.  The Barnums' are back in action on Tuesday at home at 5:45pm vs Hamden at Seaside Park. 

Barnums Tie Hamden in Midweek Affair

The Bridgeport Barnums and Hamden Miners ended in a 3-3 tie on Wednesday night at Seaside Park in Bridgeport.  The Barnums took a 2-0 lead in the second inning as Ian Nilsen had an RBI double and Will Singewald had an RBI single. Hamden scored one run in the top of the third to cut the Barnums lead in half.  The score stayed 2-1 until the sixth.  In the sixth, Hamden scored two runs to take a 3-2 lead.  Bridgeport tied the game in the bottom half of the frame. With two on and two out, John Heitzman singled to right field to plate Kieran Shea to tie the game at three.  That would be the way the game would finish up.  Joey Sanguiolo threw six innings of three run baseball and Hayden Lee threw a scoreless seventh. 

Gibson's Strong Outing Leads Barnums Past Simsbury

Cole Gibson's complete-game led the Barnums to a 2-1 wild pitch walk-off win over Simsbury on Tuesday at Seaside Park in Bridgeport.  Gibson allowed just an unearned run on four hits while striking out eight and walking just one in the seven innings.  Simsbury got their run in the second inning and the score stayed 1-0 until the fifth.  The Barnums got on the board and tied the game in the fifth. With runners on second and third and two outs, Dima Cornell-Neal signed to left to plate Yeudy Ramirez to tie the game. The go-ahead run, however, was thrown out at the plate.  In the seventh, Christian Homa singled to lead off the inning. Two batters later, Christian Nilsen was hit by a pitch with two outs.  Then, with Ian Nilsen at the plate, back-to-back wild pitches brought Homa across the plate and the Barnums came away victorious.  Bridgeport improves to 4-1 and will be back in action on Wednesday at 5:45pm at Seaside Park versus Hamden. 

Barnums Take Two From Manchester

The Bridgeport Barnums swept a doubleheader from the Manchester Eagles on Saturday at Seaside Park in Bridgeport.  The Barnums came from behind to take game one, 7-1. In game two, they got their offense going early and never looked back, winning 6-2.  Game one started slow, as Bridgeport was held to just two hits through the first four innings and trailed 1-0.  In the fifth, they put up five runs on just two hits. Bridgeport was helped out by four walks and an error. The big hits in the inning were a two-run single by John Heizman and a two-run triple by Christian Homa. Joey D'Elia also had a sacrifice fly in the inning.  Joey Sanguiolo was sold on the mound for the Barnums. He threw a complete game, allowed just a first inning run and scattering seven hits. He struck out seven and did not allow a walk.  Will Stellato also had two hits and two RBI.  In game two, the Barnums, playing as the vising team, scored three runs in the top of the first. Barnums Edged By West Haven in Low Scoring Affair

The Bridgeport Barnums fell to the West Haven Sailors 2-1 on Friday evening at Seaside Park in Bridgeport.  The Barnums outhit the Sailors 5-3 but could only push across one run.  Bridgeport took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the third. Yeudy Ramirez led off the inning with a single to center field. Later in the inning, with Ramirez at second base and two outs, Will Stellato looped a single to center to bring home Ramirez.  West Haven got their two runs in the fifth inning on only one hit. They also got a walk but played small ball with stolen bases and productive outs.  The pitching for the Barnums was tremendous in the loss. Matt Tabet threw six innings, allowing just two runs on three hits, while walking one and striking out 10.  Cole Gibson struck out two in a scoreless sixth.  Bridgeport is right back in action on Saturday as they host Manchester in a doubleheader at Seaside Park at 10:30am and 1:30pm. 

Barnums Pick Up First Win of 2024

The Bridgeport Barnums defeated Waterbury 5-1 on Sunday to pick up their first win of the 2024 campaign.  The Barnums got on the board in the bottom of the first inning.  With two outs and one out, Joey D'Elia lined a two-run single to put the Barnums ahead 2-0.  Bridgeport added single runs in the second, third and fourth innings.  Waterbury's lone run came in the fourth.  In the second, Pablo Aquino reached first on a wild pitch after he swung through strike three. The next batter, Andrew Fortunato walked.  After a wild pitch moved Aquino to third, he came in to score on a ground ball double play.  The Barnums run in the third inning came on a throwing error by the Waterbury pitcher which scored John Heitzman, who was singled earlier in the inning. One of two hits for Heitzman on the day.  In the fourth, with runners on the corners, Luke Anderson hit a sacrifice fly to center field to bring home Aquino.
